Film Location

The Walled Gaerden in SummerCrook Hall & The Woodland Garden in Summer The Medieval Hall in Crook Hall

13th century Crook Hall is one of the oldest inhabited houses in Durham City; it is a jumble of buildings reflecting its historical development. Surrounding the Hall are 6 acres of romantic garden rooms, such as the Cathedral Garden and the Secret Walled Garden. Durham’s bustling market place is a short walk away; visitors describe the gardens as a ‘peaceful oasis’. A fact that possibly led William Wordsworth and John Ruskin to visit for quiet contemplation!

The venue has been used in the past by:

  • Channel 4: 'The Uninvited Guest'
  • BBC: 'The Plague'
  • A music video recording
  • BBC: 'Gardeners World'
  • Local BBC and Independent networks
  • Also featured in a networked American film featuring Gardens of England

An ideal setting for a film location.
