This is a recent addition. The leylandi hedging has been cut to reflect the arches of the Cathedral, which can be seen on the opposite side of the river, while the beds of dianthus and lavender echo its stained glass windows.

The topiary box represents the monks who were once part of the Cathedral, The gravel and stonewalls represents the materials used to build the cathedral, whilst the yew symbolises the longevity of Christianity.

The wall was built a few years ago on the site of a previous substantial wall, which seems to have run the whole length of the east boundary.
